that if you study design at college there should be a mandatory module on "sleep deprivation".
....28 hours without now.
- Biofreak0
mmm. been there. hated it and loved it. miss those days intensly.
i feel for ya and hang in there!
- shera0
I work now though ! i mean there should be a manadory module to prepare you for what its like to go 28 hours without sleep & not eventually be able to crawl into bed cos u got to go to work tomorrow. At least at college there'd be an end in site. Misery.

28?...that's it, talk to us when you hit the third day of no sleep...you should be having nice hallucenations by then.
3 1/2 days was my record in design school...right before my evaluation.

maybe you could have gotten your work done a bit sooner if you weren't spending your time here.
; )

The latest i was up working in college was 1am. And that was only once or twice.
Then again I only did the projects I wanted in my portfolio.

There is somehting wrong with your time management skills if you ever had to stayup late.
I know med students who never stayed up all night. Are you trying to tell me design is more taxing than medical school

...try working fulltime, and having to work late, its not nice±!

moondoggie...you took the same course as i did?...oh wait, you were the drooling kid at the back...now i remember.
every course is different man.

College is piece of piss comapred to working in the industry.

I am working full time & having to work late! Thats why its misery.

Ive been at work for over 13hrs now, and it looks like a late one. Then in the REAL world I'll have to get up early tomorrow and do it all again. Try doing that for a week and see how you feel, so quit whining, and just enjoy it. College life is TRULY the best days of your life, no matter how it feels now!!

working in the industry can really shatter the idealism one has in college.
The biggest shock to me was "The clients changes". What? They want to revise my art? Inconcievable!
- unknown0
....which is why they should enjoy it.

How many of you working those crazy hours get Comp Time or Over Time?
- unknown0
I dont... just the same salary each month... its a joke in it!!

Comrades,
You can not be forced to work throught the night. Talk to your superiors. If you don't get your job done in normal office hours either you or your boss is not qualified.
That said I think it is a general problem of most creatives that they like their job little too much. It can make you feel good and worthy to work long hours. If you want to work in the industry you have to give yourself free time. You don't want to burn out in couple of years.
Students - if you work part/full time on the side it is gonna get rough. It is worth investing in your education and quit for a while.

i get time and a half when i work over. =)
so i like working over.
moondoggie, i stayed awake for many night in design school. what of it? you callin me out for bein a bad student? maybe i was more of a perfectionist than your med students. maybe not. but... you dont know me... so...
(truth is i just liked getting drunk in the studio and working with classmates... i was a slacker for my first 2.5 yrs of school... but you didnt hear that from me.)

Yes blend
In fact most countries have laws that prevent employess working insane amounts of time. Its enforcing them that is a problem.
Your best defense is to know your rights and assert them.
In fact, and this may come as a surprise to my fellow Canadians, but it is illegal for an employer to ask you to work more than 44 hours in a week without paying you overtime.
Heres a gem, most Canadian employers dont want you to see.

apologies. those standards are for Ontario only.
So you people in the other 8 provinces are screwed
