Is it realistic to pursue motion grapics without learning 3D? Do most companies want 3D experience in addition to After Effects experience?
- SuperBig0
hell man i got a motion graphics job with out any After effects experience.

Being good at 3D makes up for bad aftereffects skills.
Look at Gmunk's work, not much 3D in use if at all. 2D animation/Video work.
Now look at James Widgren Motion pieces, pure 3DSMAX

You have 3D experience?
- SuperBig0
Dont know any 3D except what I can fake in AE ( which i know very well now)
Thinking about learning some 3D though. What a pain in the sack though.

Of course, it depends on how good your work is and how much you need to use 3D. I don't know that much 3D and I don't know if I would ever want to dedicate that much effort to learning that, After Effects, which I know pretty well and Flash. There are tons of people who do great work without it. Gmunk is a great example. If you end up in decent shop, there will always be someone there who specializes in 3D for you to colaborate with.
