thanks k0na.
dobolina, nah. the v4 player wont do me any good.
i'll have to get a copy of Flash 4 so i can save as an exe from there.
MX wont save an exe using a v4 player. it will only do it using a v6 player. this is my problem
i can easily ge the swf filesize where i want it, but just not the exe. dammit. arg!!!

yeah bio, finnpimp beat me to the post. i did the same thing and had the same results.
flash4 it is then... good luck.

bio, theoretically, you just need the old flash 4 player, correct? Because you can always save down in MX. lemme see what I can find.
- finnpimp0
gah, changing versions in mx doesn't reduce the filesize.. so I guess you're just gonna have to look through those old and forgotten, dusty cardboard boxes filled with cd-roms containing what-not from the golden era of '97..

word dobolina.
and finn, MX and v5 dont offer an option to make an executable with a lower version.
this file would work fine as a v4 swf/exe but the problem is that i dont have v4. i will try it on v5 when i go home tonite, but that is still a long way off and i need to have this done as quickly as i can.
thanks for all the comments guys. i appreciate it. =)

I noticed that the projector for MX makes files that are f'ing huge compared to say, flash 4. not much help but in full agreement lord bio.
Seeya in Bioland tonite.

mmm... i do appreciate the thoughts man.
guess i just need to find a copy of flash 4 now. damn damn damn damn.
- finnpimp0
...but if you don't have any v5 or mx specific functions you could export it as a flash 4?
- finnpimp0
welps, I just tried exporting an empty flash file. stats:
swf : 1 kb
exe : 801 kbI don't know of any way to strip down the projector size, maybe the flash 4 one had fewer features etc. that needed to be included, hence being smaller in filesize?
hmm. *wrinkles forehead* probably.
- Biofreak0
thanks finnpimp.
i know that there has to be some way to do this though. the guy who did this before me has an exe that is 250kb and the sound is very shitty, so i know that he compressed it.
maybe if i tried using an older projector file. like version 4 or something? ya think that might help?
i need this file to be about the same as the original (255kb)
thoughts? curses? lesbians?
- toastie0
hmpf, i could have sworn that flash just embeds the wave file in it and you're responsible for the compression. But that might have been changed in MX.
hmpf.

ah well, thanks fer the thought.
i checked the great and powerful methodic but there is no one there. they all seem to be sitting around ignoring me or away from their computers (i suspect the former)
anyone else? 4cY, i know youre out there man!
- finnpimp0
making it a projector adds some kind of downstripped flash player to your movie, which increases the file size with about 700k... so I don't think there's too much you can do.
Well, ok, try tweaking in the flash export settings (under the flash tab), that's the only place I know of where you can change the compression.

sorry Bio, I am a DumbAss...
wish i could help.Methodic? Where, Where?
- Biofreak0
oh and the original was created about 2 yrs ago by someone else. i am "clusterfucking" this one together as quick as i can.
the guy who made this wasnt very skilled at the time, so things are not as streamlined as they should be. (useless info foryou)

ok, i need to make an executable flash file.
the swf file is 125k cuz i compressed the sound waaaay down. that's fine though. (fla file is 2.5 megs)
my .exe is 1 meg. the sound is my problem. when i goto the publish settings and choose Windows Projector, there is no option for compressing it.
this is flash MX and i am not familiar with making executables (i did it once in v5).
so how the hell do i compress the sound in MX executables?
