Phubar: Many thanks!
Chook: Nothing beats beer and pool. I'm no good at it, but I'll have to check that place out and extend an invite to you and yours if you feel like stopping down.
Kingkezza: I plan on walking... a LOT. I'll have plenty of time to do whatever I feel, and all I need is a semi-decent map and I'll be on my way :)
Gradiate: Thanks for all the ideas. I'm gonna paste all these into this doc and then map em.
Delilah: Rays are amazing. One of my clients at my current day job is Underwater Adventures, an underwater walkthrough aquarium with a petting pool for rays and sharks.
5:15 am here and I think I'm done for the night, but I have to get up in 3 hours and go to work, so anyone else who has any suggestions, come forth! I'm serious about buying people drinks, too, and I promise that I'm not some socially inept wierdo.
Tonight was somewhat fruitful:

Holy shit, I'd die to see a football game in the UK. Played it myself 3 seasons a year for 11 years when I was younger, but I don't suppose Feb is the right time o year for that :|

Febuary is the perfect time... right in the middle of the season

Old St and Brick Lane are great but if you get bored of hoxton types trying to outcool each other then come chill in West London.
Surprisingly few people know about Under the Westway, a bar in Westbourne Studios which is suuuupercool. It's very hidden but has pool and table football and sculptures to climb and spin on if you are in that frame of mind... Best of all it has loads of space which is really unusual for London.
Closest tube: Westbourne Park

I'd have a walk around 'The City' (the financial bit) - which is a nice amalgam of 'great plague' and industrio-capitalist architecture (like I know what I'm talking about..) - don't forget that many of the national museums and galleries have free entrance..
..and Vinney - you're a sick bastard for recommending 'The Church' - I mean.. we can at least pretend we're a civilised nation!

Oh and I forgot if you are in Leicester Sq and are into photography then The Photographers' Gallery is a must:

I could take yout to all teh bars where your fellow yanks collefe types hang out and drink real beer that you can't get over there! ;)

go to regents park on a sunday afternoon, where there are shit loads of soccer matches going on, and you can just join in...

I live in london and fucking hate it. However, if you have to come here i'd suggest all the big museums V&A, Nat Hist, Science, Tate & Tate Modern, National Gallery, possibly National Portrait Gallery. National Theater, Ronnie Scots Jazz club, Richmond Park and finally The South Bank.

Don't forget the Barbican Gallery...
Also a handy hint is not to use the tube map as a real map... Get an A-Z if you want to walk.
But out of interest - a "real" tube map:

i did basically the same thing you just described last summer. I ended up hanging in soho most of the time people watching and drinking pints on the street. Weather might not permit the drinking out doors part (you just don't get that in north america) but soho is a blast

and the road maps confused the fuck out of me...I stuck with the tube one. london ain't like the new york grid.
