Flash is ridiculous. I know people who barely know how to use a computer who know Flash. I don't get it. Why can't I get it? I've quit learning flash so many times.
Just venting. =)

i'd like to see answers to this thread.

yeah.... I'm not compatible with flash either...

its object oriented programming really. You have to think about it abstractly, like anything else you learn new. It for sure isn't intuitive.

download .fla's and click around like a monkey. The use of the F6, F7, F8 buttons alone should help. Make a square and click F8 and then play around.

another reason that you "suck" at Flash might be because you are going about learning it the wrong way. Just a thought..? ;)

have u tried LEARNING the program?.
i know it sounds boring but i was actully NOT born knowing how to use flash..
isnt that veerird?

Take time out to learn the basics (no matter how tedious) and then the rest will fall into place.
just don't give up! :)

Slim is right! The basics first and then the rest will follow

programming actionscript is one thing.
using flash is another.
Flash is a pain in the ass if you've never used time-line based programs before.

learn quark. screeny.

I suck at flash to. I can make naked animations run around humping eachother. But my flash talent stops there.

watch good TV. study animation. mimic reality for an effective animation.

vision helps as well

Flash has an extremely steep learning curve, but once you get it... you just get it.
I highly recommend figuring out the following concepts
-how the vector drawing tools work
-how timeline animations work with keyframes
-how to use tweens
-how movie clips and buttons functionOnce the basics are down.. read philip kermans good ol' actionscripting in flash for a nice intro into programming concepts and how actionscript is used for specific tasks
THE MAJOR HUMP people find hard to get over is that movieclips can be nested in each other, as well as in buttons, and by building very simple animations nested inside each other... magic happens!
flash is fun. its a little world where you can make anything happen. check out my final project for my new media II class.. nothing but code controlling duplicated movie clips along equations
hope this helped a bit!

I think once you learn Flash, you forget how difficult it was to grasp the fundamental concepts. And the problem with most books and tutorials is that they so often contain mistakes. I've learned the fastest and easiest by taking the video based tutorials at http://lynda.com
It costs a bit to subscribe but will save you so much time and agony that it is well worth it.
Keep plugging away at it and don't lose heart. You will catch on.

Patience and persistance due....you'll get it!

Some of you guys are surprisingly nice about this, and I thank you. For those who says, "Don't use it!," well, I don't. But it's not because of lack of effort. I've sat down to do the basics (I understand a decent amount) several times, but I've never got the patience to go all the way. I keep thinking to myself, "Couldn't I spend this time doing something more productive?" I think that because I always feel like I'm not going anywhere.
Oh well. I don't think I'm alone. =)
