I got the Chomsky Reader for christmas... from myself.

Yeah, he's got a good handle on things, and I like his writing. I can't listen to him speak for too long though, he's so sardonic and smug it gets on my nerves. He's sort of anti-conspiratorial too - he thinks Oswald acted alone, and Bush didn't know about 9/11 until after it happened? I think he's better known outside the U.S.
Not much of a designer though.

I have a friend who won't read Chomsky because he heard somewhere that he's a 'holocaust denier'. I don't believe it. He's never denied the holocaust in any of the many books I've read, but I did see him deny that he denies it. I know he lived on a kibbutz in Israel for a while.
- majman0
they actually talk about that in the movie. btw, the movie isn't just talking heads, it's very well done. even from a designer's reference point.
so i believe, if i remember correctly from the movie, that he wrote a forward on free speech for a book that was being criticized for denying the holocaust. he was only speaking out against censorship in the forward.

I love the way that if amazon doesn't have much info you get this after the book:
Customers who wear clothes also shop for:
* Clean Underwear from Amazon's Target Store

Here is a paper from one of his peers.

Majman...your 99% correct there. Would you write the forward for a book you don't agree with? He had nothing to gain from writing a 2 page forward monetarily. So the assumption would lead me to believe that he wanted to give the work some credibility and clout.
- majman0
that's a reasonable argument.
i personally think that if chomsky had some ideas about the holocaust not happening, he wouldn't be shy about expressing them. and as far as i know, and i'm no chomsky aficionado, he hasn't explicitly denied the halocaust. and isn't he usually pretty explicit about the things he believes or in this case doesn't believe in?

When I first looked into reading his books I found that he has denied the link and denied denying the link. Overall I feel that his actions are anti semetic. I just look at his record. Some things that he has to say about free speech are good and well founded (some).....but his interjections about Israel and Jews at every chance he gets turns me off.

Chomsky?
heh
- majman0
i hear you. i can definately see why someone would call chomsky an anti-semite.
regardless, he still has some interesting, and worth noting (even if you think he's anti-semitic) ideas. right?
- spk0
such a bunch. of BS if you are anti-israel, you are also an anti-semite and deny the holocaust.
look at the shit going on over there. i say f**c israel and ariel sharon. no more american tax dollars for them (or the plo for that matter) until they start respecting human life -
- majman0
that's such a disturbing picture on the header.
- spk0
no shit.
speaking of disturbing pictures

Noam Chomsky is anti-semitic in the same way as Woody Allen is anti-semitic. One criticizes Israel and its policies and voilá!- you deny the holocaust, and so on...

Ariel Sharon is a murderer. But that doesn't make me a anti-semitic.
12 billion US dollars in aid to israel this year to kill palestinian civilians while our economy goes into the shitter.

by the way..
read Chomsky.
