not another copyright question?!
I have a photograph I took, its very stylized and has gotten me a bit of recognition...a friend of mine took the photo and made a painting of/from it. Overall I think its great. But I can also see it as a potentially competitive piece to mine, say, if she were to enter it into competitions or whatever. What's the law on this? Can someone take your artwork and duplicate it in another medium without your consent? Compositionally its the same as my photograph.
thx

doubt it. the painting is, after all, just a 'likeness' and not an actual printed reproduction and i think that distinction makes the difference... then again, i'm not really an expert on this.
did you copyright your work?

not officially..but its been published and out in the world for about a year.
copyright issues make my head spin.
thanks, mitsu

i've always been fond of the poor mans copyright:
take a polaroid of yourself with your work in one hand and that days newspaper in the other.
it's better than nothing. and at least it serves as a chronological point of reference if you did need to take legal action.

yeah, and make sure you look all disheveled...then the pix will look like you're holding the work of art hostage.
...ok, i think im tired..getting giddy. :)

and dont forget to mail that pic to yourself in a nicely sealed envelop.
(preferably with a ransom note inside... ya know... for effect.)
