with balances STILL on all my cards from college and being laid off, etc., I am looking for a good place that consolidates debt.

my friend just signed up with Ameridebt. His monthly bills were about $1200 and now he only has to pay Ameridebt around $350 a month. He signed up in October and now he's buying an SUV. I don't get it.

i pulled this trick. i called my credit card company (with the card that had the highest balance) and asked them what kind of 'competative' rate they could give me on balance transfers and that the credit card co. with the lowest rate would get my business. it worked like a charm... they gave me a rate that even most debt consolidation companies couldn't touch... a year later, i'm almost totally debt free! yay for me!
