computers...just like music, movies, and art, computers come in different styles & trends. If you dont like a particular style then dont buy that computer.
A mac has its pros and cons vs.
a pc. all depends on what the person is gonna use it for.hmmm...neon light....clear side
panel..ughhhhh (personal opionion)

i can't belive that i'm actually saying it, but get a fast Mac with Final Cut Pro... mmmm.. Final Cut... Ah, time to download bootleged Avid Express and see what that can do on my PC.

If you have $3,000 a year to upgrade mac" i would rather you get one.. By college refrence..
If not Build a PC.. 2.4 - 2.8, 2-3 gigs of ram see how you like a Mac...

Kael: Personally, I would wait until after Macworld Expo to make the decision, as that's when Apple usually announces big new product releases (and the odds are good that it'll be a new processor).
And the rest of you should SHUT YER PIE-HOLES on telling him to buy a PC unless he specifically wanted advice on if he should buy a one or not. It's not always about power or price -- it's also about quality and compatibility.

I DEFINITELY agree with waiting till next year to buy. Whenever the new line of Macs come out, the older configuration prices drop like mad. Definitely good advice to do that.

get the 867 and stuff loads of ram in it

PIXELRANGER, that's 4 cents! :)
this guy seems like he's looking to buy mac. anyway, the dual 1ghz seems nice, even the dual 867, the 1.25 costs too much. i have a 933 single with 1gig of ram and it gets the job done.

Actually if you want it to run really fast, put on a speedo and cover yourself in grease.

Leave the guy alone. He could kick your ass just by thinking about it.
Seriously people..
Macs SUCK...but if you are gonna buy..wait till the new line is released and this years configurations drop in price drastically.

Save your money on the MAC first buy all the ram and screen realestate you can afford or feel comfortable with. Then see what you have left to get your mac. Monitors are a good investment nomatter what OS you use. When the time comes to get another mac or switch back to pc your monitors stay with you.
Im using a dual 450 mac and I still love it. Even if its so called slow I don't really care. I use Final cut pro, After effects, Illustrator, Photoshop Internet explorer and iTunes daily. I work faster i it. And yes I use PCees too.
By the way OSX rocks with its new iCal, iChat, Address Book, and Mail apps all working together in perfect harmony. Even with bluetooth phones :-)
BTW you can use those nifty cinema displays on both PCs and Macs.

Does it ever end? I built a 2 Gig PC this past year- fully loaded with RAM a fast video card- and a hell of alot of useful and useless apps... sure its runs applications fine. But I spent weeks downloading drivers, updates, security patches- clearing cache, ....answering - do you want to do this? Do you want to do that? Wondering why the hell the computer just wont leave me alone to actually work on it!!! Hey- why the hell did that last app I installed change my default home page....
* In two weeks of pure aggrovation- a minor virus, a dead CD burner, and a shit stained beige case I decide to sell it to some 34 year old gamer...
Not only was the whole experience a complete hassle- it was a waste of time- yeah I paid less and from just looking at the god ugly OS you can definantly tell.
My favorite part of using a PC is after I registered XP with a fake name that microsoft supposedly does not sell I started to recieve junk mail with that name on it- telemarketers asking for "Thommy Field" when my real name is Chris...
whatever-
buy a dual 1 gig first generation- they are cheap for a Mac line and pretty powerful. Use you PC for doing taxes and spead sheets and playing shoot me games.....
