"actually, i want to work around banff....
i hear its alot more fun and cheaper than whistler to live.."not sure what your meaning of fun is, but i've ridden l.louise and sunshine in banff and they don't even come close to whistler blackcomb for overall vertical and varried terrain...they do have have drier snow cause of the elevation, i'll give em that.
also you said your into mtn. biking and the area from squamish to pemberton has some of the best mtn biking in n. america...not to mention whistler has the chairlift/gondola access mtn. bike park in the summer.

2cents, thats good to know.
what do you say about the city culture of whistler and banff?
which one is the more touristic?
- ********0
i say... both are.. but whistler i think has its own unique culture..
btw, i hear that whistler has one of the highest STD ratio...
i love whistler, it maybe getting little too trendy and hate whistler for its some what of a racism.
- 2cents0
racism?...you need to make the trek up here cause i don't see much racism...considering a third of the town is prolly japanese.
being that i live in whistler i really don't see how you came up with that one.
- ********0
how i cam with that one?
hmm lets see..
last year, when i went to whistler, this guy at the hotel was saying racist remarks thinking that i didnt speak english. last summer, i was trying to get a table and the girl wouldnt seat us eventhough the restaurant was empty, and other non asian ppl came and sat them right away. we left cause she refused to seat us. almost everytime i got up there i get something.
just because there are alot of japanese there, it doesnt mean that racism doesnt happen. if you are not an ethinic minority, you wouldnt know what racism feels like.
alot of white ppl say that there is no racism but they never felt it so who can they know?

sounds pretty serious. sorry, to hear that.
again, jerks without comman sence are everywhere.
(... says the white trash)
;)

its alright... i got used to it
but i think i got more racist cause of others...
not an excuse but thats the truth

wink/dink I think your exagerating. Not seeting you in a restaurant? I dont beleive it. I've been here as long as you man. And I dont feel racism at all. Maybe its different in the West. Dunno. I cant imagine it happening.

i'm living in banff right now. i haven't been to whistler at all but it is pretty touristy here. its not too bad right now i guess its more in the summer.
but it is fucking beautiful. not to sure about work but you may be able to hook up with an internship/workstudy in april at the arts centre.

montreal
why would i exagerate about that?
just last night as me and my friends were leaving, some one behind us was yelling "fucken chinks"
i am not saying it happens everyday but it does happen.yes the restaurant thing happend. we ended up leaving cause the girl just told us to wait. you know that most of my friends are asian and when we go, we get treated differently. most of us talk about and sometimes take actions. this never happens to me when i am with my non-minority friends.
maybe you have been lucky enough to not to face these things but i have. through out elementary school, high school and college...
honestly this sounds very stereotypical but i really had to stick with other asians cause if you didnt, you would get bullied around...

Sorry to hear about that wink. Btw, I wasnt implying that you where lying or anything, I was just really shocked and didnt want to beleive that this kind of shit happens in Canada. That's sucks man. You should come and visit me here wink. No rednecks... Garanteed.
If you need to cheer up a bit, Go listen to mayo moaning soundtrack on methodic. :)

optic0, do you know anything specific about this internship, or why do you suggest it. ;)
you are in Banff, right?
- 2cents0
you have valid points dink, but i think you can find that in pretty much any area of n. america...i wouldn't single out one area as being racist based on one experience...everywhere you go you will find some assholes...unfortunately.

in regqard to the whistler STD thing:
I've heard the same about banff.
It doesn't surprise me though, you get everybody and their dog vacationing there, that makes for a lot of opportunities to bring disease into such a small area.
- 2cents0
banff is also quite the sausage town...ration is sumthin like 11 to 1 guys and girls...and it shows if you go out to some of the local hangouts.
whistler i heard was sumthin like 5 to 1...mind you we do have our crop of non shaving mtn women.
and yeah, the std rumours fly around all the resort towns where you have a bunch of 20 somethings humping like rabbits.

2cent i totally agree with ya.
its funny, how experiencing more racism makes you more racist..
hmmmthe funny thing is that, i havent experienced racism in other cities; SF, TO, NY.. maybe i havent lived there long enough.
and it is also true that there are alot of visible minority in Vancouver. I remember Paul Rodregez's stand up act in Montreal saying "I was in Vancouver the other day, I thought I was in China" or something like that. Wasnt funny to me.
