i have a company logo that i scanned from a business card. its sitting in photoshop now but the quality, for lack of a better term, sucks. i would like to bring it into illustrator for touch ups and so i can scale it at will if needed and possibly bringning it into swift for a little 3d action. how would i do this?

yea, i am constantly having to redraw logos n such.
i use big shapes at every possible opportunity but the pen tool is your friend. even on logotype.
dont even bother lookinf for the font if it is a strange one, trace and bitch, trace and bitch, and when it is done, you can thank us and bitch at us for giving no real insight into your problem.
thats what i would do =)

Depends on the logo, but I have done this in the past:
1. Scan the logo in at as high a resolution as possible. Make that sucker very big (like 1, 200 or more dpi). It will look like shit, very blurry, etc.
2. Bump up the contrast, etc. (assuming the logo is one color)
3. Use the magic wand tool. select directly or outside of logo , invert selecton if needed.
4. Open up your paths palette, make the selection a path. Play around a bit with settings to get rid of most of the rough edges.
5. Export path to illustrator.
6. In Illustrator, size down and clean it up a bit.
This works for some things, but not for others. Either way, it could save you time from retracing the entire logo. All you have to do is add/subtract some points and clean up a few lines.
Hope it helps.
