I think you just answered your own question. Sorry man - its email, not a broadband site.

You try and do too much and you'll have people unsubscribing from your list faster than you can blink. Or the ones who can't figure that out call your client and give them crap about spamming. There's a lot of folks that consider spamming to be anything they don't like.

Just finished dealing with a client with a lot of this stuff. Good luck...

fair point gravity, but the client approached us, we advise them the best way but they say 'no', the email is 3000 pixels long and will come in at around 150k. I work in the corporate world and have spent many a day trying to convince clients the do's and donts, they dont seem to care so i'll do the work, take my paycheck and forget about it once i say ' A beer please barman".

Yeah - sometimes that's all you can do. More often than not the client thinks everything is groovy as long as it looks okay coming in on their computer. They're not really interested in other email clients, how many use them, etc.

Email marketing totally surprises me. I wouldn't think it would work at all - but someone must be reading them and "clicking through" - I get a ton of business putting together marketing applications for people.

Good luck man - I feel your pain.

I built and operate an email marketing tool.. (Mailtube.co.uk)
    My tips:
don't make your emails too heavy.. 3-5 individual points are all that 90% of people will actually read...
hence, using a dropdown list is unnecessary generally.. try regular #nchor links...
