I think you just answered your own question. Sorry man - its email, not a broadband site.
You try and do too much and you'll have people unsubscribing from your list faster than you can blink. Or the ones who can't figure that out call your client and give them crap about spamming. There's a lot of folks that consider spamming to be anything they don't like.
Just finished dealing with a client with a lot of this stuff. Good luck...
