emo is just a lifestyle like goth. it has its own music, scene, and telltale wardrobe signs. it's just not as distinguishable as goth.
an emo kid might listen to deathcab, write poetry at the coffee shop, shop for the latest emo trend styles at the local thrift store or urban outfitters, and carry around this pathetic, misunderstood look along with his other depressed emo friends he met on myspace.
