sorry to say but i fully disagree with that paul rand quote. the point where i disagree with is that rand says that both are equal because both work with form and content, now that would be the case if the form and content would be the same but it isn't. form and content are so broad. architects work with form and content, are they artists? an interiour decorator works with form and content. artist as well? a typographer works with form and content. art? etc. you can even say that any religion works with form and content, is everyone religious an artist or a designer? don't think so.
anyways, except that that last bit of rand is too religious for me (it's up to god) i do agree that art is determined by others and not ourselves. if someone says that what sauerbraten has made is art, it is art.
