All the shuffle proves is that Apples influence, marketing muscle, and grip on popular culture is more powerful than the product itself. "Life is random, and your music should be too" is less of a catch phrase and more of an excuse to sell a crippled device. Pure marketing genius.
I'll give it to them though, product design is tight, ergonomics are tight, and interface as well. With the exception of the hideous candy imac and smurf berry pocket(i)books, apple products can last for years without looking dated.
