    you can save to Illustrator ai legacy format in modern Illustrator versions, which goes as early as illustrator 3 for compatibility, many programs do ignore this sort of issues but Adobe took the effort so i like to clear that up

    3d apps in general are the worst offenders on file compatibility between versions, but those environments are far more complex
