    thanks guys, esp info for those links and town suggestions.

    i'm looking to live in the mountains, and i really don't care if the house is a tiny shack. i just want it for a place to "get away from it all", not for a year round dwelling.

    i'm going to try to go down there sometime this summer and explore...if i do it would be awesome to meet ya'll NC folks.

    would my belongings be safe if i left them there for a while, say a few months? i've heard bad news about some places ie. tennessee where you can't leave your house for periods of time or it will get looted...
