thanks all! just got back on...
a lot of people mentioned viaos it seems...one thing about the one's i was looking at, there is only one slot open for ram (because the other slot is sodered to the motherboard) which is a concern to me. other than that they seem solid.
a few mentioned alienware and the like. powerful as hell but the terrible battery life and the fact that they weigh over 10 pounds basically makes these machines the exact opposite of what i really need.
several mentioned dell. i've heard really bad things and really good things so i guess i will dig deeper in that.
as for some of the high end laptops suggested. most are out of my price range, but would be damn nice : )
any other opinions / suggestions? this is a really big help. thanks guys!
