    to play devils advocate, though, ftp traditionally is a source of security problems for isp's and hosts.

    anonymous ftp access is where crackers and warez kids store all their shit.

    i set up a honeynet at work with anon ftp access last year to watch how and what crackers did to get control.

    after 3 days, the box was exploited, rootkits installed and the anon ftp dir was filled with movies, games, etc....about 68GB worth of crap.

    it is easy to see why it scares hosts.

    but, on the otherside, none of my legit linux servers have ever been compromised.

    it is about the admin, not the technology. set up correctly, and there shouldn't be any issue.
