clear channel and cumulus (and i know this to be true since i work there) both use pc. i know for a fact the ap and abc news are pc environments.

sorry, i never take the word of a consultant at face value, man. pull you dick out of the g5.

    anyway, i digress....

adobe support for linux is great news. but it will be quite a while before a usable product is released.

besides general development issues and constraints, adobe would have to decide how to approach licensing.

if they use gpl'd code, then they have to release their code under the same license. if they write everything from scratch, then they can license it however they choose.

and, we need to keep in mind that while open-source doesn't mean "free from cost" the linux community takes oss very very seriously. a back-lash wouldn't help adobe's cause.

adobe doesn't have to give away their code or their software. plenty of linux software actually costs money. and, nothing in the gpl says you can't charge for your product. but, you have to give the code away and allow subsequent releases by third-parties if so.

i see a need for closed source on linux. it is the only way linux will grow into a mainstream os. i prefer the oss culture. but, i can see the otherside.

honestly, what adobe should do now is organize and support the GIMP project. offer small bits of code to it and offer it up as a free and open alternative to their photoshop.

like red hat does with fedora. novell does with suse and netware. etc.
