Chose PC back in 96 when Apple couldn't meet demand on their 8500's and the 133mhz pentium wasn't all that much slower than the Motorolla RISC chip in the Apple.

Rationale being that Bill Gates didn't become the richest man in the world for being an idiot, and he doesn't make Apple software. (Windows 95 had just come out)

Been a Mac player-hater ever since, and for the most part agree with the Mac user stereo-types....

That is until i picked up a 17" G4 and threw a GB of ram in it.

It is the iPod of laptops as far as I'm concerned, and the fact that it runs on Unix is all the clout it needs to win over my tech side. If you've ever had to wait in line at a 'Genius Bar' you know Mac support sux beyond belief....so if you hear of a happy mac user it's because they're not afraid to 'do it themselves'. I think they deserve a little more credit that I used to give, esp. not that it's based on a UNIX back end.

But all that is minimal compared to the ease of use for music creation. I know it's a stereotype and yeah...you can do it on the PC, but there just isn't the same head-ache on a Mac.

Trust me, rather than wasting hours setting up drivers and "optimizing WinXP for music", I'm already recording and mixing new new tunes on my LAPTOP!

Don't get me wrong, there are still some things that PC's are good for, I use an IBM Laptop for work, but when I switch from it to the powerbook it's like getting out of a CIVIC and into a Merc.

Which one do you want to use on a daily basis?

Oh, and the last time I had to update my core browser or email client because of a security vulnerability? I'd have to get back to you on that.

Ultimately I say it's about compatibility...get what you can be most compatible with for what you're going to do...if you decide upon a powerbook, I seriously doubt you'd regret it. (unless you're a hard-core gamer and abhor simplicity).

That said, I did have the main-board go out on my G4, and if I didn't have Apple Care I might have a different opinion. (remember their service sux a$$)

For me, Apple prices are the single most deterring factor. If this one goes out, I'm not sure be happy about replacing it when I can get a fully-spec'd PC for a significant amount less.
