Not if there is technology available to make it accessible to everyone.
I gave one example, and the answer was "I don't have time to do that..." or "I don't want to give up all my fluff to show people content..."
There was NO technological reason for excluding users of older systems. It is pure laziness and unwillingness to use what is there.
There are hundreds of projects, mostly open-source, that build technology to push standards compliance and accessibility, but just like jon said above...he doesn't use them because of effort or time involved.
So, who is really to blame in the short-comings of design? Not the user. The user doesn't do anything...it is up to the programmers and designers to use the technologies out there to push the medium.
Exclusion doesn't use this existing technology.
Sorry to be harsh. But, anyone who claims to use the techologies provided to 'advance' the medium, yet doesn't use a technology to automatically parse a plain text version on the fly is being hypocritical.
