yeah, I was born and Raised in Mexico city(17 yrs), so my first advice is. DO NOT GO ALONE!!! specially if you have never been there before.

Always walk as you know where you are going, even if you dont, that is the first sign of a pray for any robber in Mexico city. Do not take any taxi cab on the side of the street. Always make sure you take one from the airport and that they have License plates. them all have Ids in the front of the taxi cab so try to memorize name or ID # for security purposes. If they dont have ID get off the taxi cab imediately.

If you rent a car, always have your doors locked and never leave valuables in sight. There is a common thing that robbers do in some stop lights. If they see a valuable in your car, they use a spark plug to shatter your windows and steal your stuff. they will run against the traffic if it is heavy so if you try to chaise them, forget it!

If you ride the subway or any kind of transportation do not wear earings/watches/rings. I know some might think it is too much but rather be safe than sorry.

    :)

Other than that Enjoy your stay! specially in "La Zona Rosa" at night and downtown during the day, next to Placio Municipal you will find some cool ruins right in the middle of the city.
