So it sounds like a lot of people who no longer live in the area are trying to convince someone of not moving to the area.

Most of my friends left the place, as did I, when the market's ass dropped out of itself. Most went back home or to cheaper places. Most are doing well. But most wanted change.

I grew up in the Bay Area - and still have family here. For all that is on offer (like any city) it is an excellent place to live, than say Columbus Ohio - which is where I've also lived. Like any city, London, New York or Chicago - it has its sacrifices. What you don't get from visiting it but from living here is the high cost of living and the nutbuster of parking.

Oh and the Golden Gate toll went up to five bucks. I hear some drive all the way around to the Bay bridge to get into the city.

I've met more people this time living here in as precarious predicaments as I have been in myself. But for those that stuck it out - they enjoy it. You have to have your reasons.

But I've also seen more people buy houses this year, than I did when 'we were all rich' some three years back.
