Balanced teams are the key to most top notch work. Unfortunately they bring a lot of trouble too. Most of the problems seem to be related to miscommunication. Designers tend to pat themselves on the back, because they see themselves as great communicators. The thing is that you need to be able to communicate in and out. When you have different kinds of people sometimes you need to give a lot more time for the message to sink in. You also need to be able to listen. It requires a lot patience. I totally understand your frustration as I've worked the past three years in house at a research institute full of telecommunications engineers.
