    I'm not sure what you're trying to do but I think you're saying you create a document in Illustrator and through the Document Setup window, you chose A4 for your artboard's dimensions.

    Then, when you try to print, the Print dialog window has grayed out your ability to change the size.

    OK, First, why not just use a custom size for your artboard? You don't have to use A4. You can change the dimension of your artboard to anything you want. This is done in that same Document Setup dialog window.

    Next, you are able to adjust the 'Media' size through Illustrator's Print dialog box. Choose the 'Page Setup' button from the Print dialog window then from there, you can choose a paper size or create a custom paper size.

    The Page Setup is specific to operating systems, not the Illustrator program, but I don't know what OS wouldn't have this feature....
