when i was in high school, and i saw this movie, and i thought it was disturbing and really stayed with me i told my professor this and he said it was the most pretentious nonsense he had seen.

I saw it again two months ago, and realised he was right. It is most over cooked AND pretentious. Too much self-aware directing and each scene wants to blow you away. A bit like Stanley Kubricks clock-work orange like that.

But i have to say, there is a directors cut version (not the Redux) which makes much more sense and is a lot better. I think the best Vietnam movies are Platoon and Full Metal Jacket. I think Apocalypse Now (the one edited by the studios) misses the point of Joseph Conrad's novel. But it has some good lines:

Chef: A fucking Tiger! Never get off the boat! Never get off the boat! Never get off the Boat!

Martin Sheen: Never get off the boat. God damn right. Not unless your prepared to go all the way. Kurtz got off the boat, he got off the whole damn programme

Letter From Kurtz to his wife: Sell the car, sell the house, sell the kids, sell everything. It's over. I'm never coming back.

    quality moit!
