cog dis isn't actually believing in two opposite things. it's what happens when you encounter two opposite cognitions or ideas. it's a discomfort, and natural instinct says you should eliminate one by rationalizing it away.
talking about religious types... bad word. better to call them dogmatic types. religion contains dogma, but so do different ideologies. ie. you know those stupid people who go to war protests and start screaming about their petty lefty pet cause, ie socialism or some stupid thing? those are dogmatic types. And there's the non-dogmatic religious types you don't hear about, and can never tell who they are, cos they know when to shut up.
tolerance to cog dis is called having an open mind.
