because os9 wasn't based off unix.
new system under the hood entirely.
at boot, hold control-s or whatever your mac keys are...this boots into 'single-user' mode.
once the screen stops scrolling and you get to the command line, simply execute the command...
/sbin/fsck [options]
you may need to know your device node...in linux this could be
$ fsck /dev/hda1
or something like that...i'm not sure about mac device nodes
