defrag is a windows concept. it doesn't really translate over to linux or unix; in this case mac.
but, fsck is a file system maintenace utility.
unix and linux don't require a "defrag" like a windows box does...but file systems can become corrupted or worse.
in the case of system performance issues, sometimes a simple fsck is all it takes.
it checks and [optionally] fixes the file system structure.
and norton is a horrible program. everytime i've seen it used it has caused more damage then it was supposed to fix.
