Friends are the worst. it's a subconcious thing for friends to ask more than what is necessary or originally planned, because it's not going to cost them an arm and a leg. Overcharge on the quote, then if in the end you end up really not doing too much work, charge them only for what you did.
i.e.- quote at $500
but if you only do about $300 in work, charge $300 and be straight up honest about it. They'll love you for your honesty plus they'll feel like they're getting a bigger cost break from a friend.
