maybe try exporting the image first as an EPS (might take some time to figure out which format works the best for you) and then importing the EPS.
The problem with that is sometimes your vectors won't import correctly. If you aren't going to add motion to the drawings and dont' expect the user to zoom in to see finer detail then why not just copy the entire drawing, paste it into photoshop and save as a jpeg, gif, or png file? then you won't have to worry about flash rendering all those vectors and it might even be faster.
Of course, you'll only find out if you try it.
