Okay, so here's my continuing contribution to this thread.
My GF and I listened to a Bob Dylan compilation that Victoria's Secret put out some time ago.
We also got tickets today to see him here in Chicago in April. I picked up Highway 61 Revisited and Bringing It All Back Home today, and have been listening to both all evening.
The first thing that strikes me is when I realize that this music was somewhat of a background sound at many points of my life when I was a kid - even before you even really consciously notice music. Whether it was a country-western restaraunt I may have been at, or other places in Fort Worth, TX, or the radio station my Dad had on in the car or in the garage...I recognize this sound. It sounds familiar. And I think that's pretty cool.
And I'll just say this for this continued debate about the Bob Dylan comparisons that Bright Eyes gets:
He aint got shit on this.
