thanks for the responses all.
i just got back from the optometrist who informed me that it is not retinal detachment as i had thought.
instead it is something called ocular migrains. migrains are caused by a vascular constriction in your head and when that constriction occurs near your ocipital lobe (portion of the brain responsible for sight) then instead of getting a headache you see wacked out colors and flashes for several minutes and then you might get the migraine pain.
hope i typed this all right...ive got drops in my eyes to cause my pupils to dialate and i cant focus on anything close.
