    if you can find one in a day, try to find a used Canon D10... since their newer model came out, you can find one next to new for under $800 with a lens... you can't beat it for a digital SLR right now..

    if you want a small point and shoot, get an elph.. those things are great and still give you a lot of manual controls... not to mention they're easy to carry around
