Funny, as part of my great urban escape plan, MI is on the short list. And Anne Arbor is a fine town. In my research there is not alot of existing design jobs there. Most are in Detroit or in the surrounding burbs. But it's not too far a commute. One thought I had was to start a design shop in AA catering to the university and healthcare industries... all they currently have are smalltime student shops ... best of luck.
