Sucks. I started a Bright Eyes thread last week after reading an article in Under The Radar about him. Thought I'd give the Lifted cd a shot, and it was annoying, and very boring.
He is being talked up to the n'th degree as being part of a lineage of great American songwriters - Dylan, Neil Young, Springsteen...
He may well be a good "storyteller" but the stories in the songs are just boring vignettes of moments that ANYONE could have. I've always felt the best songs are metaphorical and draw the listener in to figure it out, or find their own meaning.
I don't see a purpose in praising someone because they're describing the room their in ad naseum.
His voice sounds far too unassuring, young, and just plain non-singing.
That article was so off base comparing him to Dylan. I don't even listen to Bob Dylan, but after 2 listens to Bright Eyes Lifted, I can tell you that it's a total joke to draw that comparison.
