your 1099's come from the people you're contracting for (the people who are paying you)... if they're going to write you off as a service... they have to report your earnings to the irs via a 1099 which they're supposed to give you... so you know how much you earned from them... and thus can pay taxes on....
... unless they hooked you up under the table - there's lots of things you can do 'under the table'!
