It can also feel like a contest if your country is giving more per person than most, and people are only focusing on which country has the largest number. Australia (where I'm sitting now) is ahead of most per capita...but then its also a close neighbour to Indonesia..so it should be helping a lot.
There's nothing wrong with a 'charity auction' approach to it...but theres more to this recovery program than simply the country totals in the first week.
