Gilt, the answer to your question is 1)God the Father and 2)yes. Actually that's not the only place that he prays it was central to Jesus' work to pray, otherwise he would not have done everything he did.
It seems like it's a diminutive relationship that he has with God the Father doesn't it? Well not really, the idea of the Trinity is not that God is one like we are one, if we start talking to ourselves we are crazy.
The best I've had it explained to me is to say that God has three centers of consciousness. Humans have one, which means we can only experience things from a single point of view, and we cannot experience things from any other. God has three, and they are individuals within the one. But the idea of the trinity is that they are interrelational but one at the same time.
