    to put it simply, he's not trying to communicate with you. he's trying to sell peices of burnt wood to pretentios art officianados.

    according to "group socialization theory" as described by Judith Rich Harris in "The Nurture Assumption", he's just conforming to the norms of his group. we all speak the same dialect as the peers we are constantly emulating.

    Have any of you ever tried to support yourself by making art and selling it in galleries? if you're not able to conform to the norms and speack the language you're fucked.

    yes, "art-speak" is pretentious. yes, "fine-art" is largely an academic pursuit because institutional support is the only way fine-art production can be financially viable. yea, that truly sucks. but frankly, he's not talking to you. he's talking to the kind of people he thinks might buy his art.

    i thought you guys understood marketing? that's what it is. we're just the wrong demographic.

    think about how we respond to anyone (especially here) who doesn't speak our language.

    like me i guess..
