i've installed it and have no problems at all. i'm on a dual 2.5 with 2gb of sdram.
the font issue could solve it. simply don't ever use fontbook, it's way to cumbersome and drains the system. i use suitcase (i never thought i would, always been an ATM deluxe person) and it takes abou a minute after th desktop appers to fully load then away i go.
it may be worth your while to defrag the drive also. drives always tend to need it even straight out of the factory. no idea why, probably some internat testing residue? your startup settings may be fragged all over the drive as you've recently installed a new system (including new startup prefs/apps/stuff) and could simply be taking ages to find themselves to startup.
i could be totally wrong but these thing normally help me most of the times.
