Could be a variety of issues but I just bought one myself. Here's a few quick things to check:
1: Go to your /Library/StartupItems folder and check out what's in there. I found a ton of crap (especially Norton stuff) that when removed made my iMac run a lot quicker.
2: FONTS! Check your fonts. The more you have, the slower machine. I just keep what I need and leave the rest on an external drive.
3: Check your Activity Monitor and make sure nothing evil or unwanted is running when you're on the Finder.
