Yes, Massive Change...
Went to this show two weeks ago, and while well worth it and provoking half the time I spent in there I questioned the intent of it...
It's advertised as an open minded look at the place of design in the future, but much of the stuff I looked at left me thinking how much of it was really just a product push?
They had one of those Segway's there, letting people try it out and use it. While I think it may have it's purpose it looked more like it was a sales job to a lot of people who would never need to use it.
makes you wonder if segway paid to have it in the show. There were many other examples of product in the show as well.
To top it all off, and the end of the damn thing there is a friggin' gift shop! And to top it off you spend all this time in the show looking at taking the visual out of design, and exploring ideas like "cradle to cradle" (no waste, completely recyclable) design.
At the end there's a damn giftshop featuring your typically eyecandy design products, photo books, and it's all wrapped in completely unsustainable and unrecyclable cellophane plastic.
Plus, at the beginning of the whole show there is a big sign showing that American Express sponsors it.
It is advertised as an objective look at what design can be for the world this century, but really it just left me objectively questioning the pureness of motive of the whole event...
