Coldplay songs: I don't play cover songs, but came across many of their songs' tab quite a while back.
I think they use quite a few alternate tunings, and if you are not familiar with that (figure that you are not since you want to learn guitar) then you will be really lost. Probably best to start with stuff that is in a standard E tuning.
Definatly don't go trying to learn Sonic Youth songs.
