Fireworks is the only tool worth using if you want to lay out a website due to the simple fact that everything you add to a layout remains an individual, fully editable object. Every aspect of every component of a design can be made pixel perfect and remains simple to edit in case you change your mind half way through.

I wouldn't touch it for photo manipulation though. It's just not good at it in the way PS is.

The type rendering isn't great at small sizes and the way the colour swatches work is quite crap, but as a WEB layout tool, Fireworks is simply quicker and better suited for the job than anything else including PS. I use them both and Photoshop just seems so unnecessarily arcane and long-winded when you want to do simple things as quickly as Fireworks.

Do your image manipulation in PS, import it into Fireworks and marvel at how simple everything seems.
