hmm... usually id say using templates is a good idea, and i probably stil would in this case too. but it sounds like maybe you should exclude the images from your template. keep everything else in there, but leave the images as editable.
now i do stress that i could be wrong, but this is just from my experience. how many pages are using this template? because it is quite simple to use more than one template in a site.
