Just keep trying to get a break with an agency - the bigger the better. I never attended design school as well. You just need great work and that one opportunity to find some one who recognizes that fact.

When you do get an offer from an agency, just take it. In the beginning they will give you the crap work no one else wants. Don't worry about it.

Usually agencys will open up to the deign to everyone during the pitch and initial kick off phase. This your chance to do some knockout work. If the client selects your work, guess what? YOU MADE IT.

Now - getting the client to pick your stuff is where I can't help you. All I can say is that it requires a lot talent and skill. You must deisgn for the client not for yourself. But, people always recognize good design, so don't make the mistake of doing poor quality work. The more bold your work is the more it will stand out.

Like I siad, it's really tough - very few people seem to be able to do it. For me - I just wanted it so bad, I would do whatever it takes. If you have that attitude then success should be at hand.
