i think this logo profits from an established trademark whereas the other one had to be more specific. also it looks like it can hold for a long time because people are getting + and + accostumed to view the world through computers. although it is not so designed it stands out on screen like something very imposing and liking it its maybe out of the question.
Design is just design and wears off. Dutchboy is quite right imho, although Van Dyck has nice monograms too. :)
on the other hand, you just have to google/image ups to understand on the first catch WHY the other one was better god almighty...
